Afternoon heat index values will reach or exceed 100 across much of the area, with some locations peaking around 108. WHERE
A portion of East Tennessee, primarily in valley locations, will be most likely to approach heat indices near or slightly above 108 during the peak heat of the late afternoon hours. WHEN

Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. DAY ONE
Today and Tonight Heat index values will approach or exceed 100 this afternoon for much of the area outside of the higher elevations, with heat indices above 105F possible for most Tennessee counties. See the heat advisory for more details.
DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN
Saturday through Thursday Afternoon heat index values will approach or exceed 100 for much of the region on Saturday with the highest values likely across the southern and central valley areas. A few storms may become strong to severe with damaging winds the primary threat on Saturday.
