Today and Tonight Heat index values will approach or exceed 100 this afternoon for much of the area outside of the higher elevations, with heat indices at or above 105F possible for most Tennessee counties. See the heat advisory for more details. Storms will be more isolated in the southern Valley and more scattered from around Knoxville northward today. This afternoon through late evening, some storms may become strong to severe, with damaging wind gusts the primary threat.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
