Heat index values in the 100 to near 107 degrees continue into early evening across much of eastern Oklahoma and west central Arkansas. Conditions begin to improve after sunset. Severe drought is raising fire weather concerns across the region on windier afternoons. The greatest concerns will be across northeast Oklahoma where south winds will be gusty at times this afternoon and across far southeast Oklahoma where winds are expected to increase as the remnants of Edouard get closer to the Red River. Near persistent hot and dry weather will continue over the next week with afternoon heat index values between 100 and 109 degrees. There is a low chance of showers across far southeast Oklahoma Thursday and an isolated storm in the terrain of western Arkansas this weekend.
