Hot and dry weather will persist today, with dangerous afternoon heat indices between 105 and 109 degrees across across northeast Oklahoma and west-central Arkansas. Severe drought is raising fire weather concerns across the region on windier afternoons. The greatest concerns will be across eastern Oklahoma where south winds will be gusty at times this afternoon. Near persistent hot and dry weather will continue over the next week with afternoon heat index values between 100 and 110 degrees. There is a low chance of an isolated storm in the terrain of eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas this weekend.
