Heat stress impacts will continue today with widespread afternoon heat index values of 105 to 110 degrees, with locally hotter temperatures across portions of west central Arkansas. Excessive heat warnings and heat advisories are in effect across the region through 7 PM Sunday evening. Additionally, scattered afternoon thunderstorms are forecast to develop and persist through early evening. A few storms may become severe with locally damaging winds the primary hazard. Near record high temperatures will continue daily through Wednesday with heat stress impacts for any outdoor activities. Thunderstorm chances remain low through mid week. A weak cold front will approach the region late Wednesday and may move slowly southward through the region Thursday and Friday. Shower and thunderstorm chances will increase by late week corresponding to the potential frontal passage.
