Heat index values of 100 to 108 degrees will persist through about sunset this evening. Low thunderstorm chances develop generally for southeast and far eastern Oklahoma as well as northwest Arkansas. A potential for isolated strong downburst wind gusts exists with the afternoon storms. Dangerous heat along with fire weather danger remain the main weather concerns late in the week and into the weekend. At this time, Saturday has a higher fire weather danger ahead of a cold front forecast to move into the region Sunday and Monday. Shower and thunderstorm chances increase late Saturday night and Sunday for northeast Oklahoma, and then spread over eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas Sunday night into Monday. Additional shower and storm chances look to linger into the first half of next week.
