Heat stress will remain an impact today with widespread heat index values of 105 to 110 degrees this afternoon across much of eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms may also develop across western Arkansas and spread westward into eastern Oklahoma through early evening. Any storm which does develop could produce locally strong gusty winds. Rainfall amounts will remain light. SPOTTER AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT ACTION STATEMENT

Dangerous heat index values will continue daily through the upcoming week. Heat advisories may be needed for portions of the region each day. Isolated thunderstorms will remain possible Sunday afternoon with locally strong and gusty winds possible with any storms that do develop. Additional low thunderstorm chances return by late next week as a weak cold front approaches the area. Uncertainty remains high with the eventual southward progression of the front but it will be a feature to monitor for the late week forecast. weather.gov/tulsa contains additional information.
