Lower Arkansas River Valley in West-Central Arkansas. DISCUSSION
Heat stress will remain the primary weather impact today with widespread heat index values of 105 to 110 degrees this afternoon across much of eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas. The lower Arkansas River Valley in west-central Arkansas will see very dangerous heat with ambient temperatures near 105 degrees and heat index values topping 110. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms may also develop across western Arkansas and spread westward into eastern Oklahoma through early evening. Any storm which does develop could produce locally strong gusty winds. Rainfall amounts will remain light. SPOTTER AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT ACTION STATEMENT

Dangerous heat index values will continue daily through the upcoming week. Heat advisories will likely be needed for portions of the region at least through midweek, if not longer. Isolated thunderstorms will remain possible Sunday and Monday afternoon with locally strong and gusty winds possible with any storms that develop. Additional low thunderstorm chances return by late next week as a weak cold front approaches the area.
