Showers and thunderstorms are ongoing early this morning across northeast Oklahoma in the vicinity of a cold front. The showers and storms will expand to the south and east with time today, and will likely increase in intensity this afternoon across parts of southeast Oklahoma and west central Arkansas. A few storms in that area may become severe this afternoon and early evening, with damaging winds being the main threat. Locally heavy rainfall will also be possible with storms today. Heat index values will climb to near or above 100 degrees this afternoon from southeast Oklahoma into west central Arkansas. SPOTTER AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT ACTION STATEMENT

Thunderstorm chances will continue into Saturday. Dangerous heat will return as well over the weekend into early next week as an upper ridge builds back over the area.
