Hot and dry weather will persist today, with afternoon heat indices up to 107 degrees across portions of northeast Oklahoma and west-central Arkansas. Severe drought is raising fire weather concerns across the region, with the greatest concerns across northeast Oklahoma where south winds will be a bit gusty this afternoon. Dangerous Heat Potential. EXTENDED DISCUSSION
Near persistent weather will continue over the next week with afternoon heat index values between 100 and 109 degrees. Dry weather will continue. The only potential exception may be a few showers across far southeast Oklahoma on Thursday and an isolated storm in the terrain of western Arkansas next weekend.
