Isolated to widely scattered thunderstorms are forecast into early evening for much of the region along and ahead of an outflow boundary and compact area of low pressure moving southeast through northeast Oklahoma. Additional thunderstorms are then forecast to continue this evening through tonight across east central and southeast Oklahoma and also western Arkansas. Limited severe weather potential exists through late evening with locally damaging winds the primary threat and large hail a secondary threat. Severe potentials are forecast to weaken overnight tonight as instability decreases. Also this afternoon into early evening, hot and humid conditions south of the outflow boundaries will create heat index values in the 100 to 107 degree range. The greater potential is across east central and southeast Oklahoma as well as parts of northwest Arkansas. Conditions improve after sunset with the expanding storm chances. Storm chances linger into Saturday for parts of southeast Oklahoma and western Arkansas before the surface boundaries finally exit the region. North of the precipitation chances, hot and humid conditions spread across much of the region. The heat and humidity are forecast to continue Sunday through much of next week as the ridge of high pressure expands eastward into the southern Plains. Heat index values of 100 to 109 degrees are possible each day through the middle of next week.
