Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. ADDITIONAL DETAILS
- At 853 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include
Huntington Station, Glen Cove, Huntington, Northport, Oyster Bay, Bayville, Centerport, Cold Spring Harbor, East Northport, Greenlawn, Elwood, Fort Salonga, Glen Head, Lloyd Harbor, Muttontown, Locust Valley, East Norwich, Oyster Bay Cove, Old Brookville and Upper Brookville. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

For the High Surf Advisory, large breaking waves of 6 to 10 feet expected in the surf zone. For the High Rip Current Risk, dangerous rip currents expected. WHERE
Kings (Brooklyn), Southwest Suffolk, Southeast Suffolk, Southern Queens and Southern Nassau Counties. WHEN
For the High Surf Advisory, from 6 AM this morning to 9 PM EDT this evening. For the High Rip Current Risk, from 6 AM EDT this morning through this evening. IMPACTS
Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. Life-threatening rip currents are likely for all people entering the surf zone. Anyone visiting the beaches should stay out of the surf. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. ADDITIONAL DETAILS
Highest surf along the ocean beaches of Suffolk County. Moderate to high rip current expected on Wednesday.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions. If you enter the surf zone, always have a flotation device with you and swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float, and do not swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and yell or wave for help. &&
