FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 315 PM MDT THIS AFTERNOON
WHAT
Urban area and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. WHERE
Central Dona Ana County in south central New Mexico
WHEN
Until 315 PM MDT. IMPACTS
Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways. Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent. ADDITIONAL DETAILS
- At 140 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding. Between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain has fallen. - Additional rainfall of up to 0.5 inches is expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain. Arroyos, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall. Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or creeks. && LAT

FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH WEDNESDAY EVENING
WHAT
Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. WHERE
All of south-central and southwestern New Mexico, as well as El Paso and western Hudspeth Counties in Texas. The area of greatest concern will be near and east of the Continental Divide to the Tularosa Basin and Sacramento Mountains. WHEN
Through Wednesday evening. IMPACTS
Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded. Extensive street flooding and flooding of creeks and rivers are possible. ADDITIONAL DETAILS
- An early season back door cold front will interact with a late season plume of deep tropical moisture, bringing several rounds of thunderstorms with torrential downpours to the region this afternoon through Wednesday evening. Repeated thunderstorms may tend to focus in one or two areas, resulting in higher end precipitation totals.
