FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 145 AM MDT MONDAY FOR SOUTHEASTERN LINCOLN AND WEST CENTRAL CHAVES COUNTIES
At 947 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms produced heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD
Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE
Radar indicated. IMPACT
Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include
Hagerman. This includes Highway 285 between Mile Markers 87 and 91. The heaviest rains have occurred along the Lincoln and Chaves County line due west of Dexter, NM. This heavy runoff is expected to flood arroyos that flow into the Rio Felix, and expected to reach Hagerman, NM later tonight into Monday morning.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Both localized and distant heavy rainfall will create sudden and dangerous flows in arroyos and over low water crossings. && LAT
