This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for south central Nebraska and portions of north central Kansas.
DAY ONE
Today and Tonight. - Limited heat concerns this afternoon, far southwest: This afternoon, heat index readings could reach or slightly exceed 100 degrees in far southwest portions of our forecast area
primarily within Furnas, Phillips and Rooks counties. - Evening and overnight thunderstorm potential: Between 7 PM and midnight, a band of isolated to scattered thunderstorms will move into roughly the northwestern half of our forecast area from the west. While most storms should be rather weak, a few could be strong enough to produce wind gusts up to around 50 MPH, especially in some of our far western and northwestern counties such as Valley, Sherman, Dawson and Gosper. After midnight, mainly spotty/weak storms are possible almost anywhere in our area.
DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN
Tuesday through Sunday. - Tuesday into Wednesday thunderstorm potential: While most places will remain dry most of the time, isolated to scattered thunderstorms will be possible almost anywhere in our forecast area between Tuesday morning and Wednesday afternoon, with the overall-highest chances and coverage currently expected late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Most of the activity over the course of these two days should be fairly weak, but a few storms especially late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning could be strong enough to produce at least small hail. - Possible weekend heat concerns: Although still several days away and subject to forecast adjustments, it appears that a multiple-day stretch of fairly hot weather could arrive this weekend, and perhaps last into the first part of next week.
