DAY ONE
Today and Tonight. Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms are expected late this afternoon and evening across portions of south central Nebraska and north central Kansas. Though the exact location for development will fluctuate slightly, the front will spark thunderstorms between 3 and 5 PM along a line from near Aurora and Grand Island, south to Smith Center and Osborne Kansas. Once storms development, and lasting until 7 or 8 PM, isolated severe storms may produce quarter to half-dollar size hail and wind gusts around 60 mph. Though limited in scope, an isolated, weak tornado is possible with the initial storm development near the frontal boundary. After about 8 PM, the intensity of thunderstorms should diminish quickly. Finally, a narrow axis of 1 to 2 inches of rain is possible with the thunderstorms. The heaviest rain will orient along the front and a localized 3 inch rain is possible. While widespread river flooding is not expected, brief and minor flooding may result for a time.
