Robbins Slough Weather Advisories
This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for southwest Minnesota.
DAY ONE
Today and tonight. An air quality alert has been issued by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency for southwest Minnesota due to course particulate matter through this afternoon. Hot, dry and windy conditions will develop by late morning, leading to areas of elevated fire weather concerns. Avoid activity that could spark a fire, using extra caution during harvest as dry crops could more easily carry a fire. Strong winds may also lead to areas of blowing dust.
DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN
Sunday through Friday. Hazardous weather is not expected at this time.
SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT
Spotter activation is not expected at this time. && NWS Sioux Falls will discontinue the Hazardous Weather Outlook product (HWO) on November 8, 2026. Weather hazards and outlooks will continue to be provided through other standard NWS products, including weather briefing packets, forecast discussions, weather story graphics, the graphical hazardous weather outlook, and updated hazard messaging. All local products and visual tools are accessible directly at: weather.gov/siouxfalls.
ELEVATED FIRE DANGER AND LOCALIZED BLOWING DUST TODAY
South winds gusting as high as 40 to 45 mph will develop quickly by mid to late morning. Wind speeds will ease across east-central South Dakota by mid afternoon, while the stronger gusts linger in southwest Minnesota through sunset. These strong winds, combined with near-record warmth and humidity levels as low as 25 to 35 percent, will produce elevated fire weather concerns today. Grassland fire danger will reach the High category, with locally higher fire danger in cured croplands and grasses. Avoid outdoor burning and use extra caution with equipment in dry crops, as rapid fire spread is possible. In addition to the elevated fire danger, winds gusting over 40 mph may produce areas of blowing dust, locally reducing visibility and air quality.
