Elevated extreme heat risk. DISCUSSION
Heat index values around 100 degrees are expected today with the highest values west and north of Springfield.
DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN
Monday through Saturday. Heat index values around 100 to 105 degrees will persist Monday through at least Wednesday. Longevity of elevated heat with only limited relief during the night will elevate heat risk as we go through the week. Chances for showers and thunderstorms return late Wednesday through the end of the week how confidence in rain chances is low.

Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. &&
