The threat for heat related illnesses increases significantly during prolonged periods of hot temperatures and high humidity levels. ADDITIONAL DETAILS
A cold front possibly accompanied by thunderstorms will move inland from Lake Michigan this afternoon and evening leading to rapidly improving conditions.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
The prolonged magnitude of observed and anticipated heat will lead to hazardous conditions, particularly for the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions. Residents of the city of Chicago can call 3 1 1 to request well being checks for elderly friends or family members, or for information on finding the nearest cooling center. Consider altering outdoor plans. If you must spend an extended time outdoors, wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. &&

Elevated Excessive Heat Risk this evening. Limited Thunderstorm Risk after midnight. DISCUSSION
The combination of high temperatures in the lower 90s and high humidity values will lead to heat indices up to around 105 degrees through early evening. Isolated thunderstorms may drift into far northern Illinois after midnight and linger into early Thursday morning. No severe weather is expected.

Limited to Elevated Excessive Heat Risk mainly south of Interstate 80. Limited Flooding Risk. Limited Thunderstorm Risk

Dangerous heat will continue through Thursday and possibly into Friday, especially south of Interstate 80. Waves of severe thunderstorms may move through the general region Thursday through Saturday.
