While heat index values may not reach 105 degrees each day, the combination of the longevity of the heat and little or limited relief during the overnight periods with warm lows have prompted the multi-day Heat Advisory.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. &&

DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN
Thursday through Tuesday A Heat Advisory is in effect through Thursday afternoon. Please refer to the National Weather Service website at weather.gov/desmoines for further details. There is a chance of thunderstorms on Thursday morning. The threat of severe weather is low. Additional thunderstorm chances are forecast at times this weekend into early next week. Any severe weather potential during that time will be assessed in the coming days.
SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT
Spotter activation is not anticipated. && NWS Des Moines will discontinue the Hazardous Weather Outlook product (HWO) on September 30th, 2026. Weather hazards and outlooks will continue to be provided through the standard forecast channels, including weather briefing packets, forecast discussions, weather story graphics, the experimental graphical hazardous weather outlook, and updated hazard messaging.
