FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH LATE TONIGHT
WHAT
Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. WHERE
Much of central Iowa. WHEN
Through late tonight. IMPACTS
Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Area creeks and streams are running high and could flood with more heavy rain. ADDITIONAL DETAILS
- Moderate to heavy rain is ongoing over much of Iowa and is expected to continue through the morning. Soils are already saturated, with more rainfall on the way. Poor drainage and low lying areas may experience ponding. Significant rises are expected or ongoing on many rivers and streams, which may exceed flood stage. Some larger river basins of most concern include the South Skunk River basin from Ames downstream, the Des Moines River basin Des Moines downstream, the Raccoon River downstream of U.S. Hwy 30, as well as the North, Middle, South, Nishnabotna, Grand and Chariton River basins.
