This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of central Iowa.
DAY ONE
Today and tonight Thunderstorms will continue across the northern half of Iowa this morning, diminishing by midday. Additional thunderstorms develop this afternoon and a few may be severe. Later in the evening and overnight the threat transitions over to heavy rain. Heaviest rain is expected in far northern Iowa and ponding or flash flooding is possible.
DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN
Saturday through Thursday Chances for thunderstorms with gusty winds and heavy rainfall continue each day into the weekend. Flash flooding and river flooding will also be concerns.
SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT
Spotter activation will not be needed. && NWS Des Moines will discontinue the Hazardous Weather Outlook product (HWO) on September 30th, 2026. Weather hazards and outlooks will continue to be provided through the standard forecast channels, including weather briefing packets, forecast discussions, weather story graphics, the experimental graphical hazardous weather outlook, and updated hazard messaging.
