PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. DAY ONE
TODAY AND TONIGHT Impactful heat and humidity continues across the area today and tonight with heat headlines for the entire area. Peak heat indices of 100 to 110 are expected. Isolated strong storms are possible north of Highway 30 today and again tonight. Lightning and brief downpours are the primary risks.
DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN
SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY There is a near daily risk of isolated thunderstorms with areas north of Highway 30 being favored. A few of these storms may be strong. The primary risks are lightning and brief downpours. Heat and humidity will surge back into the area Tuesday and Wednesday with heat indices approaching 100.
