This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of central Iowa.
DAY ONE
Tonight Heat and humidity will persist today, especially toward central Iowa where the heat index will peak around 100 degrees this afternoon and evening. There is a slight risk for severe weather (level 2 of 5) near the Iowa-Minnesota state line. Damaging winds are the primary threat, though large hail and a tornado can`t be ruled out.
DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN
Wednesday through Monday Late season heat and humidity will persist from Thursday through the weekend, but with some relative breaks at times. Thunderstorm chances return to the forecast at times from late Wednesday night onward. There is some potential for severe weather, which will be determined in the coming days.

Spotters may be needed tonight. && NWS Des Moines will discontinue the Hazardous Weather Outlook product (HWO) on September 30th, 2026.
