Sunrise Elementary School Weather Advisory
This hazardous weather outlook is for portions of central
east central
south central and southeast Colorado.
DAY ONE
Today and Tonight Isolated showers and thunderstorms are forecast along the Continental Divide this morning, then will increase in coverage and spread to the rest of the higher terrain through the afternoon and evening. The Continental Divide will bear the brunt of expected convection, with widespread activity anticipated by this evening. The main risk from storms will be cloud to ground lightning, wind gusts to 45 mph and periods of moderate rainfall.
DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN
Sunday through Friday A large Pacific trough across the Pacific Northwest will slowly move towards the southern California coast by Sunday night. It will then move east-northeast and should cross Colorado by mid week. This system will bring unsettled weather and some cooling to the higher terrain, and especially to the Continental Divide, Sunday through Tuesday, then possibly spread to the Pikes Peak region on Wednesday as this system ejects to the northeast across the Rocky Mountain region. Temperatures are expected to remain well above normal through Monday, then some cooling moves in on Tuesday, and then significant cooling is forecast for Wednesday through Friday. The first freeze for the high valleys is forecast for Wednesday night.
