Center Weather Advisories
This hazardous weather outlook is for portions of central
east central
south central and southeast Colorado.
DAY ONE
Today and Tonight Heavy precipitation is expected to develop across the higher terrain today, with the heaviest precipitation across the San Juan Mountains. Heavy rain is expected to cause significant flooding across the San Juan Mountains and adjacent San Luis Valley, with road washouts possible and mudslides expected. Snow will start to increase across the higher terrain late tonight andi into Monday morning. This snow may cause slick and dangerous travel conditions along mountain roads. Strong and gusty winds can be expected today, with gusts of 30-50 mph expected across the higher terrain, San Luis Valley, and eastern plains. This may make driving difficult for light and high profile vehicles along west to east orientated roads. Wind gusts of 50-60 mph, with isolated 70 mph, may be possible across the southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains and Raton Mesa late today. Patchy dense fog can be expected across the eastern plains this morning. Visibility may quickly drop in the densest fog, and driving conditions may become hazardous.
DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN
Monday through Saturday Heavy precipitation will continue early Monday morning across the higher terrain, with the heaviest still along the San Juan Mountains. Flooding will likely be ongoing or imminent by early Monday. Otherwise showers will persist across south central and southeastern Colorado through the day. Strong winds are again expected Monday, with strong northerly to northwesterly winds and gusts to 30-50 mph anticipated, especially across the eastern plains. This may make travel difficult for light and high profile vehicles along west to east orientated roads.
