HIGH SURF ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 PM PDT THIS AFTERNOON

For the High Surf Advisory, breaking waves of 3 to 6 feet with frequent, dangerous rip currents, highest across south to southwest facing beaches exposed to southerly swells. Very strong rip currents are occuring along some beaches. WHERE
Catalina and Santa Barbara Islands, Malibu Coast and Los Angeles County Beaches. WHEN
Until 5 PM PDT this afternoon. IMPACTS
There is an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Large breaking waves can cause injury, wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats near shore. ADDITIONAL DETAILS
High tides of 5.8 to 6.5 feet will occur in the evening hours tonight.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
Remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly in such conditions, stay off the rocks. &&

Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat events. ADDITIONAL DETAILS
Heat hazards may extend into next week for portions of the region.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1. Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates.
