Thunderstorm chances will increase this afternoon and evening primarily southeast of Interstate 44. A few severe storms will be possible especially across western Arkansas with locally damaging winds the primary hazard. Additionally, hot temperatures continue today across southeast Oklahoma and west central Arkansas. Widespread cloud cover has lessened the heat stress compared to recent days but any outdoor activities should remain aware of potential heat impacts. SPOTTER AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT ACTION STATEMENT

Dangerous heat will continue for much of the upcoming week, with afternoon heat index values in the 100 to 110 degree range each day.
